In the past, the major record companies have controlled every aspect of the creation, marketing and distribution of music. With the advent of the Internet, that power has now swung into the hands of the independent artists needing to get their music to the general public. The difference between now and 10 years ago is all about opportunities. We as musicians have never had an opportunity to truly have creative control of the artform we choose to produce and create. Thankfully things have, and are changing for the better.

In this new digital revolution of music, knowledge gives you the power to create your opportunities. So with that being said, let's now talk about the major player in the music business right now and that's Apple iTunes.
A few years ago, getting on iTunes meant going through hell and back with some independent distributor, and not having a surefire guarantee that your music would even end up on the iTunes roster. But I have good news for you, right now there's a company that can get your music into iTunes, Amazon MP3, Emusic and Rhapsody at an amazing price.

The reason why I am writing this article is because it's important to me to see music get back into our hands, and into the ears of people wanting to listen to good music. As artists it's up to us to control our artform and give the people exactly what they want.

The company is called SongCast, and to say that they are amazing is an understatement. What I've done is some research with a few of the major players in the business and have found as far as price, SongCast really can't be beat.

While most companies offer a package to get you on iTunes you usually have to e-mail the music to the company, or you have to mail in a CD. At SongCast all you have to do is upload your music and SongCast will do the rest.

The biggest selling point for me has been the fact that they offer the option to just sell singles. Which for a lot of us that's how we market music anyway.

Here are a few of the frequently asked questions.

How does it work?
First, you will need to create your SongCast account.
Once you have an account you will:

1.Submit album information - Tell them your album title, song and track listing, etc.
2.Upload your album cover - Each download retailer wants to display your album cover on their sites. Your album cover must be at least 600 x 600 pixels in dimension and in RGB Color Mode. The accepted file types are JPG, GIF and PNG.
3.Upload your music - You will upload all of the songs for your album onto their secure servers, where they will convert them into many different formats, as each download retailer has different formatting standards. They handle all of this on their end. All you have to do is upload your music one time and they do the rest.
Do I give up any rights to my music?
No! You maintain the rights to your music and recordings at all times. SongCast is not a record company. We are simply a distribution service that puts your music up for sale on digital download sites.

As you can see this as an amazing offer which I'm currently using myself for my upcoming album. I hope this helps you, and I wish you luck in your music career.
